Ingredients
-
1/3
cup butter or margarine (firm)
-
2 1/2
cups Original Bisquick™ mix
-
2/3
cup milk
-
Butter or margarine, melted
Steps
-
1Heat oven to 450°F.
-
2Cut firm butter into 1/4-inch pieces. Toss Bisquick mix and butter pieces with fork until coated. Add milk; stir just until milk is absorbed (do not overstir).
-
3Turn dough onto surface dusted with Bisquick mix. Knead 5 times. Pat to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with 3-inch cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet with sides touching for soft sides or 2 inches apart for crispy sides.
-
4Bake about 9 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter.
Recipe Tips
-
tip 1
When preparing the biscuits, be careful not to overwork the dough. Biscuits can lose some of that light and airy texture if the dough is kneaded too much. Work the biscuit dough just enough so the dough is coated in flour and no longer sticky.
-
tip 2
Try adding one teaspoon of dried herbs such as rosemary, basil or thyme in your dough for a savory twist on this classic biscuit.
-
tip 3
This butter biscuit recipe can also be used to make drop biscuits. Simply decrease the Bisquick™ mix to 2 ¼ cups, then skip the kneading step. Rather than rolling and cutting the dough, drop the dough by the spoonful onto an ungreased cookie sheet, placing the biscuits two inches apart. Because the dough will be wetter, bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
